January has something special.
The calendar resets, the house returns to routine… and suddenly, that quiet need to be better appears. Not to “do it all perfectly,” but to feel a little more like yourself.
Sometimes January doesn’t ask for big changes. It asks to slow down. To go back to the simple things.
To turn on the shower and have that moment not be just a task. But a ritual.
To choose what you put on your hair and skin with more calm, with more intention. Because in the end, taking care of yourself is also that: what you repeat every day.
At Real Earth Stories, we believe in realistic and honest care: plants, natural formulas, and results you notice with use. And if you want to start the year with a routine that truly works, there are three steps that make the difference.
1) Washing the scalp: when the root is well, everything improves
There is one point that almost no one explains to us: we don’t wash “our hair,” we wash our scalp.
The root is where oil, sweat, product residue, and pollution accumulate. And when that area isn’t cleaned well, hair can look dull even if you use a wonderful mask.
This isn’t about scrubbing harder, but about washing better.
Start with something simple: make sure to wet the roots thoroughly. If you have thick hair, separate it with your fingers so the water truly reaches the skin. Then, apply the shampoo only to the scalp and massage with your fingertips (without nails), as if you were “moving” the skin rather than dragging it.
A detail that changes everything: time. If you massage for 10 seconds, the scalp barely notices. If you stay for about a minute, it makes a difference. And when you rinse… rinse thoroughly. Very often, the feeling of heavy roots comes simply from that: product residue.
And double washing? It’s not mandatory, but it is very useful if you have build-up, if you have used styling products, or if you haven’t washed your hair for several days. The first wash “loosens” and the second one cleans for real.

Which shampoo to choose for this step?
The shampoo should complement your scalp, not fight with it.
- Rosemary & Bhringraj Shampoo: if you are looking for a fresh, clean feeling and a more balanced scalp. Ideal for starting the year with a light foundation.
-
Shikakai & Onion Shampoo: if you prefer a gentle yet effective cleanse and want a more complete routine when you notice your hair is more fragile or dull.
2) Conditioner: a gentle caress for your hair.
If washing is the foundation, conditioner is what turns your routine into something kind.
Because the difference between hair that tangles and breaks… and hair that feels cared for, often lies here.
Conditioner is not an “extra.” It is the step that:
- Improves detangling (fewer tugs),
- Protects mid-lengths and ends
- Helps reduce frizz and leaves hair with that soft, loose feel we look for.
The important thing is where you apply it and how you let it work. Mid-lengths and ends, always. Comb through with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb once the hair is slippery (not before), and leave it on for 2–3 minutes so it can do its job.
Two Real Earth options to choose from
- Rosemary & Bhringraj Conditioner: light, practical, beautiful finish without a heavy feeling for normal to dry hair. Deep hydration.
-
Shikakai & Onion Conditioner: if you notice your hair is oilier and you want hydration that doesn't weigh it down.

3) Mask: the weekly “reset” that sustains the routine
If there is one moment that truly feels like self-care, it’s the day of the hair mask. Not because it’s complicated, but because it is the gesture that brings back that feeling of “I am taking care of myself.”
The mask isn’t there to “fix” what is going wrong. It is there to keep hair well, week by week. And the beauty is that you only need it once a week or every 15 days to notice a real change.
Choose according to your current need:
- Volume & Vitality: when you want hair with more body, more life, and that sense of vitality that is sometimes lost due to stress or the seasons.
- Real Curls: if you have waves or curls and are looking for definition, softness, and less frizz.
- Deep Clean: if your roots get oily quickly or feel heavy and you want balance, it is a perfect ritual to feel your scalp light again.
A simple piece of advice: on mask day, don’t do it in a rush. Make it a ritual. Because it’s also about that: starting the year taking care of yourself in a way that shows on the inside and the outside.
This year: fewer promises, more consistency
You don’t need an incredibly long routine. You need a routine you can sustain.
A good scalp wash, conditioner every time you wash, and a weekly mask.
That, done calmly and with natural products that respect your hair, is a real change.
If you tell us what your hair is like and what you are looking for (balancing oil, defining curls, adding body, softness…), we will guide you to choose what fits you best.
