Our Story...
Hello, I'm Tina Godhwani. This strange surname, which you probably find difficult to pronounce, is of Indian origin. I was born and raised in Malaga, but my parents are from Pune and Jaipur in India and immigrated to Spain in the 70s.
When I was young, there weren't many international children in Torremolinos, Malaga. Some made fun of my skin color, the spicy smell of my food, the oil in my hair, the henna on my hands, and the other "strange" rituals I followed. Like many immigrant children, I wanted nothing more than to fit in. So, as I grew up, I did my best to hide my Indian culture from others.
It also didn't help that my mother was a fan of natural medicine, especially Ayurveda. She has several bible-sized books where she looks up home remedies for every symptom. At home, we ate sattvic food, started our day with mantras, and oiled our hair every week. To me, that is the norm, and so when my daughters were born, I followed the same rituals I had learned from my mother, but all within the four walls of my home.
Everything changed for me when my second daughter, Adya, was born. At the age of 6 months, we discovered she was allergic to milk, egg, nuts, and kiwi. And that, of course, led to atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and many other dermatological conditions that I can't even pronounce anymore. Every week, I spent at least one afternoon in the waiting room of the skin clinic in the hope of finding a solution to the child's ailments.
There, I met many others like my Adya, some older, some younger, but what we all had in common was the search for solutions (without side effects) that would work for us in the long term. The quick fix the corticosteroid offered us didn't solve the problems permanently. We became a community there, and when I saw the desperation of these people, my mother, who sometimes accompanied me to these consultations, shared her home remedies and their effectiveness. Amusingly, in a moment of despair, another Spanish woman told me that she had achieved positive results with the Ayurvedic treatment my mother had suggested.
I suppose the rest of the story is obvious. My daughter is now 3 years old, has radiant and healthy skin, long and strong hair, and follows a 100% natural and Ayurvedic routine.
I started Real Earth Stories with the dream of passing on this ancient wisdom, which has stood the test of time. I decided to embrace the richness of my Indian roots, soak up Ayurvedic knowledge, and create a community to help others who, like me, are looking for natural solutions to common problems.
